・Consular Registration

  • Consular Registration is an administrative formality. Beginning April 2nd, 2024, any Beninese living abroad for more than three (03) months must register free of charge in the Register of Beninese Abroad.
  • Registration gives rise to a consular identifier (appearing on the consular certificate), which will facilitate the issuance of administrative and consular documents and the completion of administrative formalities while ensuring better consular assistance and protection.

・Power of Attorney (Procuration) Requirement

A power of attorney is a legal document by which someone authorizes another person to act on their behalf. The document is drawn up in a single copy.

・Laissez-passer Requirement

The laissez-passer is an individual travel document issued for a single international trip. This document is issued to Beninese citizens who do not have a travel document and who need to return to Benin. This travel document is valid for a maximum of thirty days from the date of issue. It is primarily issued for emergencies and must be submitted to immigration control upon entering Benin.

・Consular Card Requirement (Only When Requested to the Citizen by His Host Country)

  1. A Consular Card request form ( DOWNLOAD )
  2. Two pictures (4×3 cm)
  3. Copy of Birth Certificate
  4. Passport: Copy of the three (3) first pages, including the Japanese VISA
  5. Proof of your profession
  6. Certificate of Residence or Copy of your Japanese ID card
  7. Fee: 5000 yen
  8. Processing Time: Three working days

・Birth Certificate Requirement

  1. A written request by the Applicant
  2. A Birth Certificate request form ( DOWNLOAD )
  3. Copy of the Consular Certificate
  4. Copy of both parents’ Birth Certificate
  5. Proof of both parents’ profession
  6. Declarant Certificate of Residence or Copy of the Japanese ID card
  7. Both parents’ Certificate of Residence or Copy of the Japanese ID card
  8. Fees: 5000 yen
  9. Processing Time: Five working days
    Important Notice: The request should be made within 21 days after birth

・Acknowledgement of Receipt of Marriage Certificate Requirement

  1. A Written Request by the Applicant
  2. Copy of the Consular Certificate of the Beninese Spouse
  3. Copy of the Wedding Certificate 
  4. Translation of the Wedding Certificate
  5. Fees: 5000 yen
  6. Processing Time: Three working days

・Documents Certification (Legalization) Requirement

  1. A Written Request by the Applicant
  2. Copy of the Consular Certificate
  3. Original of the Document
  4. Copy of the Document
  5. Fees: 2000 yen
  6. Processing Time: One  working day

・Wedding Celebration Requirement

  1. A Written Request by the Applicant
  2. Copy of the Consular Certificate
  3. Legalized Copy of the ID or Passport of both Requerants 
  4. Copy of the Consular Card of the Beninese Requerant
  5. Legalized Copy of the Birth Certificate of both Requerants
  6. Legalized Copy of the ID or Passport of the Witnesses
  7. Fees: 25000 yen
  8. Processing Time: One month

・Translation of all documents issued by the Embassy (French – English – Japanese) Requirement

  1. A Written Request by the Applicant
  2. Copy of the Consular Certificate
  3. Document issued by the Embassy
  4. Fees: 2000 yen per Page
  5. Processing Time: Three working days

・Specimen of signature Requirement

  1. A Written Request by the Applicant

・Death Certificate Requirement

  1. A Written Request by the Relatives
  2. A Death Certificate request form (COMING SOON)
  3. Copy of the Consular Card or Passport or ID Card of the Departed
